CR 914 Radio Controlled Model Sailboats

Power Pack CR-914

Power Pack Supreme

The single greatest concern with a radio controlled anything, is the power supply for the radio control equipment. So I set out to put together the best collection of goodies to minimize the problems caused by sailing "half charged," and the endless monkeying with batteries.

Suppose you could sail 18 tough races in really wet weather. Your hatch is sealed with tape or well coated with Vasaline® to help keep your boat dry inside. AND your batteries are still doing the job. You put your boat in the car and go home. You place your boat on its display stand in the living room. You plug the transmitter, and the boat battery pack, to your battery charger. A week later, you unplug the charger, put the boat in the car and start all over again.

Did I mention that you never touched a battery? Did I mention that you didn't need to worry about over charging? Sound too good to be true?? Well, it isn't.

What I put together are the parts and pieces that will allow you to seal your hatch while sailing, and always have the very best in battery power. Here is what is included.

Battery Charger w/two leads - one lead fits the jack on the left side of your radio, the other lead plugs directly to the battery pack in your boat. Indicator lights on the charger are visuals that you have good contact.

Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries - These batteries have proven to be superior to all other rechargeable AA batteries. They have a recharge cycle of up to 1000 times, and they don't have a memory like older NiCad batteries - so you don't need to completely discharge them to charge to full capacity. 12 single AA batteries are included. They are the same size and weight as standard alkaline batteries. .

Magnetic Switch - This switch is the greatest. Simply unwire your manual switch, reinstall the same leads onto the magnetic switch, and use the supplied Velcro® to fasten the new switch under the starboard midship deck. The magnet part of the switch attaches to a small section of Velcro® on deck just above the switch. When the magnet is in place, the boat system is turned OPFF. When you are ready to sail, you simply take the magnet off the deck and put it in your pocket. Note - there is no opening in the deck for this switch and you do not need to open the hatch to turn the boat on or off.

Battery Pack Pad - The CR-914 has a way of allowing a little water below on occasion. Therefore, it is wise to protect your battery pack from getting wet. Balloons work great, but when moisture gets through the balloon, the balloon will actually hold it in. So if you use a balloon, fine, just take it off frequently to dry everything out.

The best solution is a nifty little closed cell foam pad. This pad fits in the bilge and the battery pack velcros right on top of it. Thus your batteries remain low in the bilge, yet out of the water that might be sloshing around. :)

Instructions - This complete kit comes with full installation instructions. You can realistically install the entire kit in about 20 minutes!
